Xavi: Messi will always be welcome at Barcelona

Barcelona manager Xavi has stated that Camp Nou doors will always be open for Lionel Messi.

The 34-year-old forward left Barcelona on a free transfer last summer owing to the club's financial difficulties, joining Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year agreement.

Messi has seven goals and 11 assists in 26 games for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season, but he has recently been booed by PSG fans, and his father is rumoured to have spoken to Barcelona about a possible return.

Dani Alves has also pushed the Argentina international to make a swift comeback to Barcelona.

Xavi has stated that Messi is 'always welcome' at the club but has admitted that the forward's contract with Paris Saint-Germain would make re-signing him tough.

"Messi has earned the right to have the doors open to him at Barcelona, while I am the manager here he is welcome to come to see training every day or speak with the manager," Xavi told Mundo Deportivo.

"What he has given us is priceless, he is the best player in history and he deserves a great homage from the club. But currently, he has a contract with PSG, I think he signed for two years."

Messi has scored twice in 18 Ligue 1 outings for PSG this season and struggled to make an impact in the Champions League's last-16 round against Real Madrid.
