Man United 3-0 Brentford: Rangnick's last home match ends in comfortable win

Manchester United roared to a 3-0 win over Brentford in an English Premier League match played at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Red Devils were winless in their last three matches but jolted to life against the Bees, who were on a four-match unbeaten streak.

Ralf Rangnick's charges got off to a perfect start when Anthony Elanga displayed great vision and sent a pass to Bruno Fernandes, who showed brilliant composure inside the box to bury the ball from close range into the back of the net.

United then controlled proceedings from that point onwards, pinning the Bees deep into their half.

The hosts felt they should have been given a penalty halfway through the first half when Cristiano Ronaldo went down inside the box, but the referee, unsighted waved play on.

Juan Mata then missed a glorious chance just after the half-hour mark, slicing his shot just wide of the right post.

A minute to the break, Ronaldo thought he had doubled United's lead with a brilliant goal, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

United started the second half brightly and managed to create a couple of half-chances in the opening 15 minutes.

They then got the chance to double their lead after the hour mark when Ronaldo was brought down inside the box, leading to a penalty.

The Portuguese easily beat the goalkeeper from the spot, giving his side the much-needed cushion.

Raphael Varane then made it 3-0 with his first goal in a Man United shirt in the 72nd minute after a corner ball fell to him.

There were no clear chances in the remaining 20 or so minutes, as United strolled to an easy win that boosted their slim hopes of featuring in the Champions League next season.
