Bayern president wades into Lewandowski saga

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has waded into the transfer saga involving striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish have claimed that he doesn't see himself at the club next season with his dream said to be in playing for Laliga giants FC Barcelona. Hainer has however claimed that the Bundesliga giants are in control of the situation.

“We’ve always said Lewandowski has a contract until 30 June 2023 and a contract is a contract. Where are we heading if a player can end his contract while we as a club have to pay him until the last day? That’s unfair. Things can’t be like that,"Hanier told Bild am Sonntag.

Asked about his feelings on the player forcing a move, he added: “I’m a bit surprised that Robert had chosen this way to communicate publicly. I wouldn’t have done that in his place,” Hainer said.

“He’s been at Bayern for a long time, won many titles, and became the world’s best footballer twice. I think he knows very well what he has at Bayern; a club that deals with its players very well and does everything so that they perform to their best on the pitch. So I have to say that appreciation is not a one-way street.”

The 33-year-old is said to be keen on playing in a new league and feels that featuring for Barca would help him achieve his childhood dream of playing for the Catalonians.
