⚽ Kane breaks Messi, Ronaldo's record in England draw

England striker Harry Kane surpassed both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo following his 50th international goal in just 71 matches.

Jonas Hofmann scored the opening goal for Germany in the 50th minute before Kane spared England's blushes with a late penalty. Kane became the second England player after Wayne Rooney to reach half a ton of goals and the 72nd man in football history to reach the landmark notably quicker than Messi and Ronaldo.

Messi reached the landmark after 107 matches while Ronaldo needed 114 to do so. Speaking after the game, Kane expressed his thrill at having racked up his half-century.

"A really nice feeling, you know. I had a couple of early chances in the game. Obviously, the first one over the bar and then Neuer made a good save for the second," Kane said.

"I thought maybe it was one of those days but we kept going and probably played our best football in the last half-hour of the game. Physically, we were really strong and good to get the goal and just a shame that we couldn’t get the goal at the end."

The draw leaves England rooted at the bottom of their Nations League group, with just one point earned from two games.
