Confirmed: Koops and Leopards’ TB sacked
The AFC Leopards’ technical bench has been disbanded.
Coach Jan Koops together with his entire technical bench that includes Bernard Onyango (Team Manager), Mickey Weche, Nicholas Muyoti (Assistant Coaches) and Noah Wanyama (Technical Director) have been relieved of their duties.
After a dismal performance in the just concluded season, the National Executive Committee members met on Monday 19 November and agreed to send the entire technical bench packing.
According to Chairman Alex Ole Magelo, the Dutchman and his technical bench failed to take full control of the team.
-We have parted ways with the coach and his technical bench. With failure to win any trophy and failure to hold on to the team and loosing grip of the team in the second half of the season, said the Chair to futaa.com.
-We have been trying to salvage the team in terms of discipline; some of our players have been accused of drinking before the match. That’s the work of the coach and I think he’s the one who’s been leading them to those kinds of things.
-We kept on telling him but together with the TM they just lost control of the boys. I have once been in the camp early in the morning and I was surprised with what I saw; some of the players come when they are totally drank and that’s why our momentum dropped.
-I asked them why they allowed the boys to drink before the match but nobody gave me an answer. I even have videos of my boys drinking especially on Fridays-a day before the match. Those immoral activities are unacceptable at AFC and that's where started having problems with Koops.
-On Weche, he has never been on the TB; he’s always on the terraces. We know he’s with Strathmore and we asked him to choose one, either be with us or leave.
-The Coach lost completely in terms of discipline when it matters most and that’s why we lost most of the matches, concluded Magelo.
Apart from the technical bench, Leopards have also released nine players including Jimmy Bageya, Emmanuel Tostao, Samuel Misse Mwangi, Laurent Tumba, Mohammed Fwaya, Brian Masiolo, Shaban Abdul, Amon Muchiri and Robert Syongo.
Koops joined Leopards in June 2011, and led them to a 23-game unbeaten record before Tusker ended it in Mombasa.
In 2011, Leopards managed to finish fifth on the log, while in 2012 they were ranked third.
