Valladolid derails Real Madrid

Valladolid derails Real Madrid

07 May 2014, 23:01
Real Madrid title bid suffered a major blow when they were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Valladolid in a match day 36 played on Wednesday 7 May 2014 from 2200hrs local time at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium.

Madrid carried a 1-0 half time lead when Sergio Ramos sent in a 25 yard free kick.

Large chunks

The visitors, who lost talisman Cristiano Ronaldo in the ninth minute to a harm string defended the lead with large chunks of possession but home team Valladolid leveled matters with five minutes left on the clock through Humberto Osorio.

The draw leaves Madrid at third with 84 points, a point behind second placed Barcelona and four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, each with two games left in the season.

Tremendously improve

Their shortfall at Valladolid thickens the plot for the La Liga title as it hands Champions Barcelona, who had otherwise given up on the title, another chance - should they beat Elche away on Sunday and stop Atletico Madrid in the season ender.

Madrid's dropped points too hands Atletico the best chance to claim a rare league title for the first time since the 1995/6 season, which will tremendously improved at the weekend with a home win over Malaga and a draw against Barca in their last game.
