2014 KPL U19 tourney cancelled

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has confirmed the cancellation of the 2014 edition of the KPL U19 tournament.

In a short statement on the official KPL website, the KPL noted that the cancellation was due to unavailability of funds for the tournament which was initially held in 2011.

Lack of funds

-The Kenyan Premier League would like to inform the public that the 2014 KPL Under-19 tournament has been cancelled due to lack of funds. The annual tournament, open to the junior teams of all the 16 Premiership clubs, was first held in 2011, the statement read.

Thika and Stima

The first edition of the tournament was won by Thika United then the second, in 2013, was bagged by Western Stima. The tournament was not held in 2012.

The tournament is normally funded by monies collected from the KPL Top 8 tournament which brings together teams that finish in the top half of the KPL in the previous season.
