Italian side fined by UEFA for breaching FFP rules

Italian side fined by UEFA for breaching FFP rules

14 Dec 2018, 13:15

UEFA has fined Italian side AC Milan £10.7m while threatening the club with a season-long ban from European competition for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

According to the UEFA panel, the ban will be activated if Milan fails to break even on soccer-related business in June 2021.  The decision came the day after Milan failed to advance to Europa League’s round of 32 after being handed a 1-3 defeat to Olympiacos on matchday 6. The Rossoneri was originally banned from the competition in June for violations of rules monitoring spending on player transfers and wages up to 2017.

The club also spent heavily in an off-season spending spree that year. Milan was reinstated within weeks by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which sent the case back to UEFA for a fairer punishment.
