CECAFA U20 doubtful: Uganda U17 to play Burundi U20 in international build up
As it stands, the CECAFA under-20 tournament will not take place this month, Futaa can confirm.
The championship which has been postponed about four times will not take place due to the disorganisation and internal intrigues at the regional body and the regional national football associations.
On Wednesday, this website confirmed that the Uganda under-17 squad that was initially called up to play the tournament as they prepare for the AFCON U-17 in April will play an international build up match with Burundi’s Under-20 heading to the AFCON.
“We shall travel to Burundi over the weekend to play their national Under-20 team. We expect to name the squad on Friday ahead of the game that is scheduled for Tuesday,” the team’s manager Bashir Mutyaba confirmed.
The Uganda FA (FUFA) had earlier announced that the country will host the tournament from Monday 14th to Sunday 27th January but that is now impossible.
It is also impossible for the regional tournament to take place in February since the AFCON U20 will be on from 2nd to 17th in Niger and Burundi, a CECAFA member, will be taking part.
