Harambee Stars, Gor Mahia and FKF feted in the 2018 SOYA awards

Following a stellar 2018 that saw them qualify for the African Cup of Nations, Harambee Stars were crowed the Team of the Year after beating Gor Mahia who finished second while Football Kenya Federation (FKF) emerged second runners up in the Federation of the Year at the Sports Personality Of the Year Award.

The event was staged at the iconic Fort Jesus in Mombasa on Friday 11th January. Harambee Stars ended their 15 years on the cold by qualifying for the continental showpiece as they went unbeaten throughout the year, with a victory over Ghana, a draw and a win against Ethiopia. Stars fended off stern opposition from Gor Mahia who finished second after making history by becoming the first Kenyan team to qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup group stages.

FKF emerged third in the Sports Federation of Year as Athletics Kenya came second to winners Kenya School Secondary Sports Association(KSSA). KSSA has seen tremendous growth in the sports scene as it has acted as a conveyer belt for churning out talent in various sports fields in the country.
