Nzoia Sugar has forced a 2-2 draw against Western Stima at Moi Stadium, Kisumu on January 20th, 2018.
Two penalties inside the second half ensured the fiercely fought encounter ended with the draw.
Benson Mangala almost conceded an early goal after he delayed to clear his lines and allowed Laban Gambereko close in on him. The duo collided as they scrambled for the loose ball and Mangala went down and had to be attended by the medics before being allowed to continue.
Vincent Odongo opened the score for Stima in the 12th minute as he calmly fired past Mangala from a Kopany Herbert long throw. Prior to the goal, Gambereko had missed another fabulous chance to beat Mangala with a free header. Gambereko was left unmarked then.
A near miss by Hansel Ochieng was no big deal as Nzoia got rewarded with an equalizer in the 20th minute when Stephen Etyang doing a marvelous job as he got into Stima box and fired past Abawa from quite a tight angle.
Mangala was spot on when he cleared off the line with a fierce header by Junior Mukhisa in the 39th minute. Mukhisa rose to meet a long throw-in by Luke Ochieng with Nzoia pinned into their area at that juncture.
Nzoia’s Ochieng was unlucky as his header hits the woodwork in the 58th minute. Credit be given to Etyang who delivered the pinpoint cross for Ochieng. The duo’s combination caused problems for Stima in the first 15 minutes of the second half but they did not manage to beat Abawa in goal who stood firm and denied them in the 55th and 57th minutes.
Abawa then denied Robbert Arrot in a one on one situation in the 68th minute after Nzoia breached Stima's defense with quick ball movement in the final third. Stima's keeper was, however, firm and thwarted any danger the visitors threw his way.
Nzoia conceded a penalty when Peter Gin handled the ball inside his own area and the center referee had to make the simplest decision of awarding Stima a spot kick. Abawa rose to take the challenge and successfully doubled the host’s lead in the 70th minute.
After nine minutes, Nzoia were awarded a penalty too after Kevin Akongo handled the ball inside the area. Jackson Djwang took the penalty and leveled matters at Moi Stadium.
