Emery reveals why he left Ramsey out of Arsenal squad

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has finally opened up on why he used to leave Aaron Ramsey out of his side on a regular basis earlier in the season.

Emery claims Ramsey's 'confused' state of mind led to him making the decision of benching the Wales international. When Emery took over, there was uncertainty surrounding Ramsey's future as the midfielder had refused to sign a new contract which saw the Arsenal boss request the club to withdraw the offer. He ended up agreeing on a deal with Italian side Juventus and will join the club in the summer.

"His progress this season is amazing. At the beginning (of the season), he was a little confused maybe, because he is in the last year of his contract," said Emery.

"For us, and for me, he is a very important player but his confusion maybe did not help us at some moments in the season – not like his performances now. In his last few performances he has been helping us a lot – and in some of the key moments of this season. His injury is bad news and I don’t know how long he will be out of the team, maybe two or three weeks."

Ramsey picked a knock during his side's 1-0 win over Napoli on Thursday and he is expected to be out for two to three weeks.
