Chelsea receive massive boost as star striker set for contract extension

Chelsea are confident they can convince French star Olivier Giroud to extend his stay at the club at least for one more year.

Giroud signed an 18-month contract when he joined the Blues from Arsenal in January 2018 and was expected to leave at the end of the current campaign.

He, however, had an optional one-year contract extension, and reports indicate the two parties have agreed to activate the clause.

The French international has had a relatively successful campaign with the Blues and is the leading joint top-scorer in the Europa League

He has a chance to add more goals to his tally when the West London side plays rivals Arsenal in the finals on May 29th.

He had attracted interest from clubs within his country, with the likes of Nice, Marseille, Bordeaux, and Lyon all said to have been gunning for his signature.

His contract extension is good news to Chelsea, who have been hit by a UEFA transfer ban, which means the club might not be able to add new players at least until 2021.

They have, however, appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports but their case is not expected to be heard for some time.
