AFCON 2019: Guinea vs Madagascar preview

22 Jun 2019, 12:35

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations has kicked off and Saturday will afford Group teams to take centre stage.

After the Nigeria vs Burundi Group opener, Guinea and Madagascar will be the sides to watch on Saturday night.

The encounter is scheduled to be played at the Alexandria Stadium in the Egyptian city of Alexandria.

The Elephants are making their 12th appearance in the AFCON finals following a successful qualifying campaign.

Their key player is Naby Keita, who just won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool FC.

Belgian tactician Paul Put will be looking to guide his side to victory over an unfancied Madagascar side on match-day one.

Meanwhile, Madagascar are making their debut appearance at AFCON finals, with their dangerman being Faneva Imà Andriatsima, who is currently plying his trade in France for Clermont Foot.

French tactician Nicolas Dupuis is keen to lead Madagascar's Barea to a famous victory over Guinea.

This will be the third meeting between Guinea and Madagascar.

The Elephants have recorded one victory, while one match ended in a draw.
