AFCON 2019: 3 teams that failed to live to expectations

All group matches have been concluded at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

While some teams had a stroll in the park to the Round of 16, some others really struggled to measure up.

Luck was on the side of a few, who eventually qualified as best losers, but others like Kenya, Angola and Zimbabwe was disappointing during their AFCON 2019 campaigns.

The Harambee Stars felt a deeper pain when they learnt that their three points could not take them to the knocout stages despite 3-point tie with South Africa, Tunisia, Benin Republic and DR Congo.

Kenya was the only team with three points but still crashed out in the group stage, no thanks to a -4 goals difference.

The team managed to come from behind twice to beat Tanzania 3-2, but two loses to Algeria and Senegal was their worst undoing.

Making their 8th appearance in Egypt, the Palancas Negras was disappointing at the AFCON 2019.

Angola had managed two draws in their first two matches with the hope of sustaining the tempo in their last group game against Mali.

But a 37th minute goal by Mali's Amaduo Haidara condemned Angola to third place, crashing out with two points from three matches.

The Warriors found themselves in Group A of the tournament alongside host Egyp, Uganda and DR Congo.

Zimbabwe could not stand the heat as they suffered two defeats, with their best result being a 1-1 draw against Uganda.

They finished bottom of Group A and consequently crashed out of the AFCON 2019.

For these teams, 2021 is around the corner, and an early preparation will see them through the group stages.
