Senegal is set to meet Tunisia in the first semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria locking horns with Nigeria in the second semi.
Algeria joined Senegal and Nigeria in this year’s tournament after beating Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties. Sofiane Feghouli put Algeria in the driving seat in the 20th minute. Baghdad Bounedjah missed the opportunity of extending Algeria’s lead to two as he missed a penalty which proved costly to his side as Jonathan Kodjia leveled the scores for Coast. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time as well as stoppage time which led to penalty shoot-outs. Wilfried Bony and Serey Dié missed their penalties as The Desert Warriors booked a semi-final spot after winning.
In the second match of the day, Tunisia were too strong for Madagascar as they dismantled Barea by a 3-0 scoreline thanks to goals from Ferjani Sassi, Youseff Musakni and Naïm Sliti.
