Green Eagles the quest to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League has been hit with a big blow after they succumbed to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Primeiro 1° de Agosto at Heroes Stadium.
The Angolan giants did not take time to settle and started dictating play early on with Zito Luvumbo and Manuel Afonso controlling play on the wings.
Agosto broke the deadlock in the 30th minute after Christavao Paciencia connected with a low cross inside the 18-yard area with Eagles defenders caught ball watching. The match went to the break with the Angolan outfit maintaining their lead.
In the second Stanza, Eagles came back a better side and started creating chances. The pressure finally paid off in the 78th minute when Amity Shamende connected well with a Bonny Muchindu long throw-in.
Eagles nearly took the leaf after Tapson Kaseba found Shamende unmarked in the box with a beautiful cross but Shamende headed the ball directly into the goalkeepers' hands.
Christian Ngudikama sealed the win for Eagles four minutes from time after benefiting from a defensive error, 2-1 the match finished. Eagles will travel to Luanda for the second leg in two weeks time.
