Former Bolton Wanderers centre back Rob Holding made his return to Arsenal after featuring for the side against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
Holding had been on the sidelines since December 2019 after he had sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a Premier League clash with Manchester United.
The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes and was given the captain's armband when Mesut Ozil was replaced by Dani Ceballos in the 71st minute. He also got on the score sheet to cap a perfect return to the first team.
Holding took to social media after the game with an emotional post "Best feeling in the world, honoured to wear the armband! Top work from the boys tonight! You knowww!!!"
Among the many ecstatic replies to his Instagram post was that of former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey.
The midfielder who joined Serie A side Juventus in the summer appeared to have been hinting at the idea of the 24-year-old being the next captain.
Ramsey replied: "Bobby, so good to see you back and getting on the score sheet. Love it skip!", to which Holding replied, "Thank you, bro!"
Former Gunner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also commented on Holding's post, saying: "Love it, Bob!"
If the comments are anything to go by, it looks Holding is the favourite to be the Arsenal captain in a few years time.
