πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ 😯 Billiat, Castro on fire as Chiefs hammer Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns were haunted by their former strikers after taking a 4-2 defeat from Kaizer Chiefs today.

Sundowns failed to defend their Shell Helix Ultra Cup after taking the inaugural edition 2-1 in 2018.

Amakhosi finished the job inside 45 minutes with a 4-0 lead. Leonardo Castro opened the scoring on eight minutes. The Colombian took his brace on 31 minutes after doing brilliantly to follow up another Billiat attempt.

Castro completed the hattrick after nodding in a Billiat corner two minutes before the break. Billiat made it 4-0 after an excellent one-touch combination with Castro on 45 minutes.

The stroke of half-time witnessed a forced injury substitution for Kabo Yellow. Oupa Manyisa was stretched off for Hlompo Kekana.

The second stanza came with four half-time changes. Sundowns threw in Kennedy Mweene for Reyaad Pieterse, Anele Ngcongca for Rivaldo Coetzee, Ali Meza for Tokelo Rantie.

Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp also made his own changes. Kabelo Mahlasela came on Philani Zulu, while Kgotso Moleko replaced Njabulo Blom.

Sundowns pulled one back on 60 minutes to make it 4-1 via Meza after Gaston Sirino forced a saved from Daniel Akeyi.

Middendorp made three more changes on 51 minutes. Bernard Parker stepped onto the grass for Lebogang Manyama, as well as Siphelele Ntshangase for Kearyn Baccus.

The final goal of the afternoon came from the penalty spot to make it 4-2. Uruguayan forward Sirino stuck in a 93rd minute penalty after Lyle Lakay was brought down by Daniel Cardoso.

Another Sundowns-Chiefs meeting isn’t far at all. Sundowns will host Chiefs in a league game on Sunday 27 October in Pretoria.
