Kariobangi Sharks defender John Kuol amassed the full minutes as South Sudan saw off Seychelles by a solitary goal (3-1 aggregate) to make it to the group stage of the 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
South Sudan had registered a 2-1 win in the first leg staged in Khartoum before shocking Seychelles on Sunday away from home with Kuol featuring in both games. Tusker FC striker David Majak didn’t feature in the games as he was given time to mourn the passing of his uncle.
The win sees South Sudan join group B that has Burkina Faso, Uganda and Malawi; they will start their campaign against the latter on November 13 in Blantyre
Apart from South Sudan, other countries that made it to the group stage included The Gambia, Chad and Sao Tome e Principe.
The Gambia oversaw Djibouti on post-match penalties after a 2-2 aggregate score where the former won 3-2 to progress to Group D of qualifying where they will meet the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon and Angola.
Chad also went through penalties after they won the home leg of their tie against Liberia 1-0 to make it 1-1 on aggregate. Chad just edged Liberia 5-4 to make it through to Group A of qualifying where they will face Mali, Guinea and Namibia.
Sao Tome e Principe followed up their famous 3-1 first-leg victory away to Mauritius with a 2-1 victory in their home leg on Sunday to go through 5-2 overall. They will be in Group C of qualifying for the 2021 Nations Cup alongside Ghana, South Africa and Sudan.
