Francis Kimanzi lost his first game as the head coach of Harambee Stars on Sunday at the hands of Mozambique in a match played at the MISC Kasarani.
There were a few new faces in the national team but who did the overall team fair in the tie?
Faruk Shikhalo 5 The Yanga SC had nothing to do in the first half but looked shaky every time the Stars defence was under attack. Missed to grab some cross that could have resulted to a goal in the second half and failed to make a proper decision in one incident when he raced off his line to clear a ball outside his box.
Samuel Olwande 6 Solid but nothing spectacular. With Yusuf Mainge breathing down his neck perhaps needed to be more convincing now that he might come up against the Mo Sala and co in his next assignment.
Eric Ouma 8 MAN OF THE MATCH Gave his all from minute one with his mazy runs. Has been one consistent player since the 2019 African Cup of Nations; a form he has taken to his club IF Vasalund. Covered up for Shikhalo at one point when the keeper failed to clear a ball after racing off his line and made good crosses that the strikers failed to tuck in.
Joash Onyango 5 Far from the dominant figure at the back he was in the 2019 AFCON qualification process. Looked short of confidence from minute one when he failed to control a simple pass from a teammate.
Joseph Okumu 6 Looks like he has cemented his spot at the heart of Stars defence but will need a good partner to compliment his abilities.
Victor Wanyama 7 Coming from an injury at Spurs was going to take a toll on the captain but once again he reminded his doubters about his abilities. Looked lost though when they switched positions with Lawrence Juma.
Lawrence Juma 6 Too many misplaced passes but no shortage of effort as usual. Looked more comfortable when he was allowed to prod forward.
Kenneth Muguna 5 Started the game far too high up and barely touched the ball. It was one of those days where everything didn’t just work out for him.
Clifton Miheso 5 The Gor Mahia winger derailed Eric Ouma on the left flank every time Stars attacked. In more than one occasion found himself with his defender standing at the same place. Did well in recoveries.
Michael Olunga 6 Lovely shot in the first half to remind the Mozambique keeper that he wasn’t in Kenya for holiday but did terribly in chances conversion. His fans might want to blame the slippery pitch.
Cliff Nyakeya 5 Barely touched the ball in the first half. At one point he even tried to change positions with Juma but nothing worked for him. His wing was rarely used too.
