Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool: Lallana rescues a point for Reds

Adam Lallana came off the bench to rescue a point for Liverpool as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.

United was pressing then it was expected this coming after they started with a back three. These pressing bore no fruits though going forward as Marcus Rashford looked alienated upfront with no much support.

Despite missing Salah, Liverpool was to remind their host what they were capable of with a quick counter falling to Sadio Mane saw the Senegalese prod forward to thread a pass to an unmarked Roberto Firminho; the Brazilian with all-time in the world shooting straight at De Gea.

Rashford Goal

United pressing was to pay in the 36th minute when Marcus Rashford gave them the lead. Daniel James instigated a quick run on the right-hand side of the field before sending in a one time shot that was tapped in by Rashford. Liverpool claimed that there was a foul prior to the goal but after reviews by VAR, the goal stood.

Liverpool was not giving up hope and thought they had restored parity in the 44th minute through Sadio Mane. The Senegalese had taken an advantage of some poor defending by Victor Lindelof to slot past De Gea but after reviews by the VAR, his goal was overruled for a handball much to the relief of the home fans.

Liverpool was to withdraw Origi for Chamberlain at the hoir mark with the aim being to press the United rearguard. It was, however, Rashford who almost doubled  United's lead in the 66th minute after a quick counter instigated by Perreira saw his shot veer off the target by a whisker.

Liverpool Subs

Fabinho was to be booked for a foul on James as Liverpool brought in Adam Lallana for Henderson. A final sub was to see Liverpool bring in Keita for Wijnaldum with United making their first sub by bringing on Anthony Martial for Rashford.

Liverpool was to restore parity through Lalana in the 84th minute after the United defense had gone to sleep. Perreira was to be withdrawn for Williams in the dying minutes but it was less to change the outcome of the game.
