Kenya's Harambee Starlets won't be part of the 2020 Olympics after being eliminated in the fourth round of the qualification process by Zambia following their 1-0 loss (3-2 aggregate) at the Nkoloma Stadium on Monday 11 November.
With the first leg held last Friday ending in a 2-2 draw, Starlets needed a win of any margin to make it to the final round of qualification where Ivory Coast/Cameroon lied in wait but the early proceedings didn’t pan as they had planned.
The hosts pulled an array of attacks with Rachel Kundananji being a constant waste in front of their guests’ goal. She was to miss an open goal at the quarter-hour mark and when Zambia won a penalty in the 25th minute, the play was to see her effort come off the bar.
Starlets' Wincate Kaari was to test keeper Hazel Nali with a sumptuous free-kick but the shot-stopper was up to the task as the half was to end in a scoreless draw.
Zambia, however, was to break the deadlock thirteen minutes after resumption through Mweemba Lushomo and despite a changed second-half display from Kenya, they were to fall short in the qualifiers.
