Former Asante Kotoko head coach Charles Akonnor will join the Ghana national as the assistant for the first time ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Ghanasoccernet revealed that Akonnor has been called on top replace Ibrahim Tanko - he joined the side' training session on Monday.

Ten players were led by Black Stars captain and Swansea City forward Andre Ayew and three goalkeepers in training at the Accra Sports Stadium ahead of Thursday's clash.

Some of the other players who joined the training session are Jordan Ayew, Nuhu Adams, Samuel Owusu, Gideon Mensah, Tawrick Jebrin and the three goalkeepers Richard Ofori, Felix Annan and Razak Abalora.

Ghana are set to welcome South Africa to the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday, November 14, before making their way to São Tomé and Príncipe on Monday, November 18.
