Cristiano Ronaldo brands Luxembourg pitch a potato field

Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo branded Luxembourg Josy Barthel stadium as a potato field after their 2-0 win over the hosts on Sunday.

Ronaldo scored the second goal-his 99th international goal-but according to the Juventus man, he didn’t understand why a team of their stature were to play in such conditions.

“It’s difficult to play on these pitches - it was a potato field, I don’t know how teams of our level are supposed to play on these pitches. It wasn’t a good spectacle but we did our job... I’m looking forward to my fifth European Championship,” Ronaldo told reporters after the game.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with Ronaldo adding a second four minutes from time in the game as Portugal, who are the defending champions, booked their place in Euro 2022.

The 99th goal put Ronaldo on the brink of history as he is set to become the second player in history to score 100 goals for a national team a feat that is held by Iran’s Ali Daei who has 109 goals.
