Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas believes the Ballon D'Or is a battle between Lionel Messi and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
The Spaniard has does not see Cristiano Ronaldo winning the gong, despite his heroics with the national team where he won the UEFA Nations League.
Van Dijk is seen as the frontrunner, having led the Reds to the Champions League title and coming close to lifting the English Premier League, narrowly missing out to Manchester City.
Messi, on the other hand, led Barcelona to the La Liga title and finished as the top scorer in Europe, once again leading the side form the front.
The two battled for FIFA's Best award, which was won by the Argentine, with Van Dijk beating the attacker to UEFA Player of the Year honour.
"Van Dijk was the best player for UEFA, Messi was the best for FIFA. Imagine if Cristiano wins the Ballon d'Or? It would seem to me that the guidelines we follow in football to give prizes do not have much logic," the former Madrid goalkeeper tweeted.
The winner from the 30-man shortlist will be announced at the France Football ceremony on December 2nd.
