Why Premier League players have been wearing rainbow laces, armbands this week

Players in the English Premier League are showing their support for the annual Rainbow Laces campaign, which is aimed at raising awareness and acceptance of the LGBT community.

The campaign, Rainbow Laces initiative which is organized by Stonewall aims to make sport a welcoming platform for the LGBT community.

Clubs in the Premier League are also offering their support, which includes players using rainbow-colored merchandise including shoelaces and armbands.

Tottenham Hotspur went a step further in the campaign, choosing to illuminate their stadium with rainbow colors.

The clubs have also drummed up support for the campaign on their social media pages, with players alike voicing their support.

The Premier League too was not left behind on this, with a message on their twitter account indicating they were fully in support. 

"The Premier League stands proudly alongside @stonewalluk in promoting LGBT equality and inclusion,"  

"Clubs and communities are stronger when everyone feels welcome, and it’s down to all of us to make that happen,"

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a special message for the football community as well;

Chelsea too showed their support durign the match against Aston Villa on Wednesday, with the women's team set to follow suit when they take on Manchester City over the weekend.
