Kenyan midfielder Alwyn Tera has won the Georgian League Cup (David Kapiani Cup) title with FC Saburtalo after their 3-1 win over Lokomotiv Tbilisi on Sunday 8 December at the Stadion Tengiz.
Hosts Saburtalo took a 12th-minute lead through Kokhreidze with Gabedava doubling their lead in the 19th minute. The visitors reduced the arrears in the 52nd minute through Sikharulidze penalty but Kakubava restored Saburtalo’s two-goal cushion with a goal a minute from time.
Apart from the Cup title, Tera helped his team to a Europa League Playoff spot after they came third in the league with 70 points; five points below leaders Dinamo Tbilisi who qualified for the preliminary stage of the UEFA Champions League.
In the 2019 season, Tera managed to feature in 22 games with 19 being starts. He came from the bench nine times and was only substituted in three occasions receiving nine yellow cards in the process.
Amos Nondi and John Macharia
Apart from Tera, other two Kenyans who ply their trade in Georgia this season were Amos Nondi and John Macharia.
Nondi has been in the book of Dila Gori since 2018 after shifting from Kolkheti Poti. In the 2019 season, he featured in 31 of the 36 games with 27 being starts. He was introduced from the bench eight times and was substituted in four occasions. He finished the league with eight yellow cards.
For Macharia who features for Guria in the Erovnuli Liga 2 (Georgian second Division), things didn’t turn out as planned. Having joined the club in July this year from Saburtalo II, they could only manage a Relegation Play-Off as they finished eighth in the ten-team league.
Since his arrival, he featured in 12 games with nine being starts. He had no yellow card to his name.
