Juventus lost the chance to open a nine-point gap at the top of Serie A on Saturday night as they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat away to Hellas Verona.
With closest challengers Inter Milan not in action until Sunday, Maurizio Sarri's side could have extended their lead to nine points, albeit temporarily, but went down despite taking the lead.
In-form Cristiano Ronaldo made history by becoming the first Juventus player to score in 10 consecutive Serie A games with his 20th goal of the season on the 65th minute, but the hosts fought back to equalize and take the lead.
Former Liverpool, Sunderland and Chelsea striker Fabio Borini equalized for the hosts before Giampaolo Pazzini scored the winning goal with four minutes to go.
An unhappy Sarri said his side made 'soft errors' in the match, but admitted the hosts were good and made their work even harder.
"Evidently we have different performances and results when comparing home form to away. It was a difficult game, we knew it would be and that Verona would make us suffer early on," he said after the match.
"We held out well, hit the woodwork twice, took the lead, but cannot drop points with such soft errors. The first goal was inexplicable, if we want Juventus to win games, we cannot keep making errors caused by a superficial attitude."
"... The mind is the most important thing, because if that is detached then you won't be on the mark tactically. If your mind is also not at 100 percent, then the physique won't follow."
The loss means Inter Milan can cut their lead to just three points if they win on Sunday against AC Milan.
