Laliga has granted Barcelona the permission to sign an emergency player outside the official transfer window to replace the injured Ousmane Dembele.
Dembele has been ruled out of action for six months with a hamstring tear after undergoing surgery in Finland, and the seriousness of the injury has seen La Liga give the Catalan giants the green light to sign a replacement.
The Spanish giants now have 15 days to sign a player who is either currently plying his trade in Spain's top division or is a free agent.
Their new signing will only be able to play La Liga fixtures, and will therefore not be available for selection in the Champions League; Barca slated to take on Italian side Napoli in the last 16.
Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona’s request to sign a new player was approved after they sent the relevant documentation to La Liga's medical committee last Thursday.
Apart from Dembele, the team is short of attackers following the injuries to Luis Suarez and the January exits of Carles Perez and Abel Ruiz; the development leaving Barca with no option but to depend on Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Ansu Fati in every competition.
Already Martin Braithwaite-who previously featured for Middlesbrough-is being linked with a move to the club after scoring eight goals for Leganes this season.
