πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Vipers remain on course for league glory after dull KCCA

Vipers SC on Tuesday maintained their five-point lead at the top of Uganda Premier League table after playing out a dull 0-0 draw against KCCA FC.

The match had been billed as explosive and entertaining duel only to turn out to be a tactical bore and colourless as both coaches tried to not to open up and attack.

The match played at St. Mary's grounds lively Tito Okello pick up an injury in the opening minutes and could miss a number of crucial matches for Vipers.

Erisa Ssekisambu and MikeMutyaba could do little to trouble Vipers rearguard and introduction of diminutive Dan Sserunkuma and Karim Watambala did little to sharpen a blunt Vipers attack.

At the end of the shadow boxing, the home side was happy with a point as they maintain their lead with eight matches to go.

First defeat

In other matches played on Tuesday, URA suffered their first defeat in 11 matches after they were humiliated 3-0 by a ten-man Busoga United at Mighty Arena in Jinja.

Defender Douglas Muganga was sent off after receiving his second caution but the home side held on to beat their much-fancied opponents.

David Bagoole opened the scoring in59th with a beautiful free-kick before Nelson Mandela added the second five minutes later. Fleet-footed Lawrence Tezikya put the game beyond doubt for the hosts with the third goal in75th minute.

Busoga United climbed to fifth on the 16-team log with 33 points, one shy of fourth-placed URA.

Point tally

In Wakiso, Wakiso Giants left it late to beat visiting Maroons 2-1 and maintain their spot in the top ten half. Tom Masiko cancelled out David Ndihabwe's opener before Viane Ssekajugo sealed the three points with barely four minutes remaining on the clock.

The win leaves Wakiso Giants ninth on the log but improves their points tally to 29 while Maroons are now 11th with 24 points.

Relegation battle

At Lugogo, Bright Stars pipped hosts Police 2-1 to crawl out of the danger zone and probably secure their Premier League status.

Skipper Sulaiman Ssebunza Ssekagya and pacy winger Muwadda Mawejje gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at some stage before veteran forward Hood Kaweesa got a consolation for Police in the closing stages.

Bright Stars, under Paul “Kiwa” Kiwanuka moved to tenth with 26 points while Police remain stagnant in the relegation confines, staying 14th on the log with 22 points from the same number of games.
