Manchester United will not renew the contract of midfielder Nemanja Matic with the player expected to leave the club on a free in the summer.
Reports from Calciomercato claims that the Serbian is open to extending his stay at the club for another year as there is a clause in his contract that allows United to have him for another year but the club is said not to be interested.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s is said to be comfortable with the midfield options he has with Scot McTominay seen as an apparent heir to the Serbian. With the resurgence of Fred, the imminent return of Paul Pogba and the brilliance of Bruno Fernandes, United isn’t short of option in the middle of the park.
Matic will turn 32 before the start of the 2020/21 season and, according to Calciomercato, is currently earning €10m per year in wages; a happening that doesn’t interest United who is looking to offload some of their highest earners.
Already reports of a move to Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus have surfaced for Matic with a move to the MLS also muted for the player who has previously represented Chelsea.
