🔵 Didier Drogba, the man who relished the big occasions

The iconic Ivorian was a late bloomer in terms of making an impact on Premier League football with Chelsea, but he made up for lost time in a big way after joining the club aged 26.

Regarded as a Blues legend, Didier Drogba's influence is felt around the football world as he continues to give back to people in need on the African continent. His leadership skills and winning mentality have clearly stayed with him from his playing days.

🏟 Drogba's best moments

Drogba had a habit of scoring important goals for Chelsea at crucial moments on the biggest stages, none more so than slotting the decisive penalty in 2012's Champions League final to give the Blues their first-ever European Cup triumph. That win came against Bayern Munich in their back yard, and it's a moment that will never be forgotten as it secured his place in Chelsea folklore. Almost fittingly, it was Drogba's towering header in the 88th minute which took the contest to extra time and he was on hand again when his teammates needed him most at the death. Football teams need leaders and Didier Drogba was born to serve that role.

Carlo Ancelotti said it well:

"There are a lot of players with fantastic technique, but they are not leaders. They have not made the most of their careers, because they do not have a strong character, personality or courage. You need all of those as much as technique. Didier has it all. When you find a player who has talent and is unselfish—hai vinto! You’ve won.”
