Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull signs new contract after Celtic deal fell through

Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull has officially signed a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until June 2022, The Daly Record reported.

Turnbull was intended to join Celtic on a £3million, however, he saw the deal fall through at the last minute following a failed medical after it was discovered that he had a pre-existing knee problem that would eventually require surgery.

The 20-year-old returned to action last month after a longterm injury that kept him on the sidelines, he was a substitute in a 2-1 defeat at home to St Mirren.

"As soon as I knew I was back, fit and ready to get some game time, I wanted to make sure my contract was sorted," Turnbull said.

"I have been here for a long time. I feel as if I owe the club and the supporters for the way I have been looked after and treated.

“I’ve missed most of this season, so this puts us back to pretty much where we were at this stage last year in terms of my deal, giving the club a little more protection as I was coming into the last year of my contract.

“All my focus now is on spending the next few weeks getting up to full fitness, get back to just playing and enjoying playing football for Motherwell."
