Javier Hernandez: Man United appointing Moyes was a mistake

According to former Manchester United striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, the Red Devils made a mistake in hiring David Moyes, and they are still recovering from his disastrous spell.

Moyes arrived at Old Trafford on a six-year deal following Ferguson's retirement in 2013, only to last just 10 months at the helm, despite backing from the board.

Now, Chicharito, who played more than 150 games for United between 2010 and 2015, feels the Premier League giants are still trying to recover from Moyes' period in charge.

"To be honest, we didn't have anything personal – Moyes and myself – but it was a mistake that they took him," the LA Galaxy forward told Rio Ferdinand on The Locker Room on Saturday.

"It was a mistake. That was the first mistake that it's still haunting – not because of him, he's not a bad manager, but they thought they were going to take the replacement of the boss, of Sir Alex, so quick. It's impossible!

"Not until now. Even [Pep] Guardiola and [Jurgen] Klopp and [Jose] Mourinho are not at the level of Sir Alex yet.

"They're on the way trying to get there. Or [Johan] Cruyff, those kinds of managers. They're not there but they're trying to achieve that."

The Los Angeles striker also criticized Moyes for not letting him leave the club, despite not playing him.

"I can accept being a substitute at Man United," Hernandez said.

"Sir Alex told me that one of his regrets was not to play me more and he told me he was going to speak to Moyes to tell him I needed to play more.

“He said I was an important figure for Man Utd, I deserved more game time and then David Moyes and (executive vice-chairman) Ed Woodward did not do both. They did not play me and they did not let me go.

“In the winter, there was another opportunity for me to go but he did not let me go because he was so stubborn and that’s why he only lasted seven months because he was not humble, he could not grow to be United.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now United's manager, and they sit fifth on the table, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
