🔴 Five individuals that helped Liverpool win the Premier League title

Liverpool's incredible 2019-20 Premier League title win has been built on a strong team ethic and collective excellence.

However, a few individuals have stood out in their own right. Here's a quick look at them.

🗿 Virgil van Dijk

The elegant defender has become one of the most respected centre-backs on the planet after a string of colossal displays on the European and English stages. In 2019-20, only three players have featured in every single league encounter thus far for Liverpool (Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk). Van Dijk stands out alone, however, as the only one who hasn't missed a single minute of Premier League action.

🥽 Trent Alexander-Arnold

Reds legend Jamie Carragher said this about Alexander-Arnold: “What makes him special is that it’s like having Kevin De Bruyne at right-back. He’s like a midfield player.” The stats back that up. TAA has now notched 13 Premier League assists this season (the most for a defender in a single campaign), beating his tally of 12 from 2018-19.

⚡️ Sadio Mané

Liverpool's Senegalese sizzler has been a destructive force that opposition defenders have struggled to cope with for the entirety of 2019-20. His direct approach has tormented full-backs around the country, seeing him complete 69 dribbles (10 more than the figure posted by attacking colleague Mo Salah). Add in his 17 goals & seven assists, and it's no wonder that he's become a key figure for the European and English champions after becoming Jurgen Klopp's first major signing four years ago.

🧠 Roberto Firmino

Much has been said about Roberto Firmino's curious lack of goals at Anfield this term (his only Premier League strike at home came in Wednesday night's 5-3 win over Chelsea) but the Brazilian has had no such struggles on the road. Liverpool has won 13 matches out of 18 on their travels in 2019-20, a huge contributing factor that acted as the engine in their title win. Three sides have scored more away goals than the Reds (Man City, Chelsea & Leicester) but Firmino's tally of eight goals on the road still represents 27% of the away-day strikes notched up by Jürgen Klopp's champions, which is the single most significant contribution out of any Liverpool player by far. Add seven assists to his direct goal contributions tally and it's been another productive campaign for Liverpool's unsung striker. Only Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Leicester's Jamie Vardy and Man City's Raheem Sterling have scored more away goals this season than Bobby Firmino. Raw statistics also tend to disguise rabona assists, no-look penalties and much of this man's lethal industry in the final third. Just ask his teammates.

🎯 Mo Salah

Since the Premier League’s inception, only Alan Shearer (1994-95 to 1996-97) and Thierry Henry (2003-04 to 2005-06) have claimed a three-peat of Golden Boot awards. Liverpool's Egyptian superstar Mo Salah smashed records in 2017-18 by hitting 32 goals to claim the award, and he shared it last season with Sadio Mané and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with his tally of 22. His current tally is 19 with three games to play, four goals behind the pace currently set by Jamie Vardy. He's highly unlikely to claim the Golden Boot for a third successive year, but assist for Gini Wijnaldum against Chelsea means that he's hit double figures for both goals & assists for the second time in his Premier League career. He's the first Liverpool player in the Premier League era to hit multiple double-doubles.

Football is primarily a team game, but these five outstanding individuals have undoubtedly helped Liverpool Football Club elevate itself to the next level and claim Premier League glory under the tutelage of Jürgen  Klopp.

Stand up for the champions.
