Chelsea are reportedly preparing a bid for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, French media reports.
The report adds that Frank Lampard wants the Senegal international to provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga. Kepa is under pressure to prove his worth as the Blues’ no.1 between the sticks after an inconsistent season.
Mendy has been highly recommended by Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, Christophe Lollichon, who also worked at Rennes.
The Spaniard conceded 54 Premier League goals last term, the worst record in the top 10.
Recent speculation has linked several players – including Atletico Madrid’s £100million-plus-rated Jan Oblak – with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Mendy, 28, moved to Rennes from Stade Reims last summer and had an impressive debut season. He kept nine clean sheets in 24 Ligue 1 games to help Rennes finish third.
