Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia says the club designed to sign Malang Sarr because it was an opportunity the club could not miss.
Sarr joined Chelsea on a five-year deal on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Nice. The 21-year-old will be loaned as part of the Blues' plan to provide him with valuable experience before making a return to Stamford Bridge next season.
And Granovskaia has broken her silence on why the club opted to move for the center-back.
"The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss," she told the club's official website.
"He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea. We are very happy to welcome him to the club today."
