Premier League record set by newly-promoted clubs

Premier League record set by newly-promoted clubs

All three promoted clubs set an unwanted record in their opening matches of the Premier League campaign.

Fulham, Leeds United, and West Brom lost their opening match of the Premier League for the first time since 2013/14, when Crystal Palace, Hull City, and Cardiff City did so.

Fulham 0-3 Arsenal

The Fulham vs Arsenal was the first fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign where the Gunners emerged the winners by a fine margin. Fulham had a good start to the game, creating some scoring chances and causing a threat to Arsenal's backline.

However, the club conceded through Alexandre Lacazette's strike before new signing Gabriel added the third. Club's captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a beauty to secure all the three points for the Gunners.

Liverpool 4-3 Leeds United

The second encounter was between Championship winners and Premier League defending champions Liverpool. It was an entertaining encounter and it looked as if Fulham would secure a point away at Anfield but Mohamed Salah scored the decisive penalty when the two sides were at a 3-3 scoreline.

West Bromwich Albion 0-3 Leicester City

This was a tough clash for the hosts Albion, having contained Leicester in the first half, the newly-promoted side conceded the first goal through Timothy Castagn strike. West Brom fought to level the scores but Jamie Vardy scored two goals from the spot to send the tie far from Bromwich's reach.
