🔴 Liverpool vs Arsenal: Three key battles that could decide the match at Anfield

Arsenal have been taking to the pitch with renewed optimism ever since Mikel Arteta took over at the Emirates.

There is a positive attitude, and energy, which is always evident in their matches.

Their win over Liverpool in the Community Shield and the first two victories in the new Premier League season have further lifted their spirit and you can feel there's a new wave sweeping through.

On Monday night though, they come up against the Premier League defending champions, a formidable opponent, and it will be a major test for Arteta and company.

The match might be a close affair, and we take a look at where key battles to keep an eye on.

1. Alexander-Arnold vs Aubameyang

Arguably the best young right-back in Europe against the best striker the Premier League has to offer.

The Gabon international has led the Gunners from the front, literally, and will be the main man if Arsenal are to return to Emirates with a positive result.

His blistering pace and eye for goal are two of his strongest attributes, and they will be on show at Anfield, with the Liverpool backline aware of the threat, having scored against them at Wembley in the Community Shield.

Trent is known for his runs to aid in attack and is good at that, but with Auba on the wing, it might be a tall order for the youngster, who missed the loss at Wembley.

It will be a battle worth watching.

2. Thiago vs Granit Xhaka

The midfield battle can be the deciding factor in this match. New signing Thiago Alcantara is a midfield maestro, a schemer ready to find options around him, comfortable with either long or short passes, and easily dictates the tempo of the match.

His debut against Chelsea last week was just a piece of what Liverpool fans will be seeing week in week out at Anfield.

Xhaka on the other hand has grown immensely under Arteta and is back to his former self. He will be tasked with ensuring Alcantara does not run the strings for Liverpool, and if that happens, they will be in with a great chance.

3.  Roberto Firmino vs David Luiz

David Luiz can be erratic at times like he was at Anfield last season, but he can also be super good on a good day.

Against Liverpool in the Community Shield, Luiz was tasked with ensuring his fellow countryman had little or no space at all, and he did exactly that.

He, in a number of times, left the defense to take care of Firmino, and it worked well as the threat was neutralized.

The forward loves this fixture in particular and will be a danger through the 90 minutes.
