Kenyan Primer League side Wazito FC have confirmed that striker Stephen Owusu, who featured for the club in the past, has passed on.

Owusu passed on after a short illness in his native Ghan and according to Wazito, his death was a massive blow to the football community.

"We have received with great shock the sad news of the passing away of our former striker Stephen Owusu. Owusu was a committed and hard-working player during his time at the club and his demise is a massive blow not only to his family but also to the football community," Wazito said.

Before joining Wazito, the Ghananian was in the books of league giants Tusker FC where he was part of their team that won the Kenyan Premier League and the Shield Cup in 2016.

The player was among 14 players dropped by Tusker after the 2017 season with the others that joined him outside the door including Humphrey Mieno, Allan Wanga, James Situma, and Cercidy Okeyo, Clifford Alwanga (now Mathare United), Anthony Ndolo, George Mandela, Moses Ndawula, Victor Ndinya, Luis Tera, Danson Kago, Noah Wafula and Martin Kizza.

Apart from Wazito and Tusker, the player's last stint in Kenya came with Nairobi Stima this after featuring for Mine Stars, Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions and Aduana Stars in his native Ghana. He had other stints at Tunisia outfit Esperance Tunis and Nigerian outfit Sharks FC.
