Schalke youngster Thiaw responds to Liverpool links

Schalke youngster Malick Thiaw says he is fully focused on performing for Germany despite reports linking him with a move to Liverpool. 

Liverpool have been monitoring Thiaw following a defensive crisis at Anfield with first choice center-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez currently on the sidelines for a longer period. Joel Matip is also out with a back injury. 

The Reds have been chasing for the signature of a defender and have been linked with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Dayot Upamecano with Malick being the latest player. 


"Of course you're happy when big clubs are after you, but it was actually clear to me that I would stay at Schalke," he told the club's TV.

The 19-year-old, who is contracted to Schalke until the summer of 2024 has already scored one goal this season in the Bundesliga.
