Giroud: I want to stay at Chelsea and win more trophies

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has reiterated his desire to stay at the club and help the team win more trophies.

The Frenchman's future has been the subject of debate in recent months, especially with Frank Lampard preferring Tammy Abraham and Timo  Werner upfront.

Giroud however reminded everyone at the club of his qualities with a man-of-the-match performance against Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday night, scoring all four goals.

Speaking after the match, the former Arsenal man insisted he will be happy to extend his stay in West London.

"I just have to show the manager that I am ready to fight until the end, as I told him at the beginning of the season, but obviously to be happy I need to be a little bit more on the pitch," Giroud said.

Adding: "The gaffer gave me the opportunity to play and I hope I will have more opportunities again because I think I’ve shown him that I am ready to fight for the team. We all want to be on the pitch but we have a great squad,"

With the Euros planned for next year, Giroud is keen on getting more game time to stay fit and have a chance of making the squad.

"I had a conversation with Deschamps and he said if the situation stayed like that, I will have to take a decision in January. I am pretty sure I can get some more game time and stay at Chelsea because that is what I want. I want to win trophies with Chelsea so basically, that’s it,"

The win in Seville secured top spot in the Champions League Group E for the Blues, who had already booked a  place in the last 16.

Their attention now shifts to the weekend with a home match against Leeds United on Saturday night.
