Memphis Depay dismisses talk of a January switch to Barcelona

Dutch superstar Memphis Depay has rubbished reports linking him with a move to FC Barcelona in January.

Depay had been one of Barcelona’s targets last summer with manager Ronald Koeman admitting that he wanted the player at Camp Nou but in his latest interview with Marca, Depay insisted that his main focus was with his club Lyon where he is the captain.

“We have a great team, a great collective spirit and, while I don't know what will happen later, I'm 100 per cent focused on Lyon right now. I'm a player, a captain and the most important thing is working hard and winning matches. If I think about my own future, then I could lose focus.

“I can't say anything about that (Barcelona interest), there are many clubs that are interested but right now I'm here,” the former Manchester United attacker said.

The 26-year-old further added that he wants to help his side achieve a Champions League spot next season something that has pushed his drive for the Ligue One club.

“We're creating a beautiful and hungry team and we improve with each game.  I don't like to think beyond the next match, that's the most important thing to focus on. Our goal is still to qualify for the next Champions League,” he added.

Barca is looking to address their deficit in attack and defence come January after long-term injuries to Ansu Fati and Gerard Pique with the club looking to lure Eric Gracia from Man City too.
