The club wishes the striker the best of luck in the next stage of his professional career.
According to previous reports, the 33-year-old striker leaves the club after a failing to agree or merely discuss a new deal with the club.
"The striker, who asked to leave the club for personal reasons, signed the termination of his contract that ran until June 30, 2021," said the club in a statement.
"Atlético de Madrid and Diego Costa have reached an agreement for the termination of the striker's contract, which was to end on June 30, 2021. The striker asked to leave the club for personal reasons a few days ago and on Tuesday signed the termination of his contract," added the club.
Meanwhile, several clubs around Europe are linked with the former Spain striker, including Arsenal.
Ateltico, who lead Laliga on goal difference ahead of Real Madrid, will host Getafe on Wednesday.
