Jesse Lingard set to stay at Man United despite Nice interest

Midfielder Jesse Lingard is expected to stay at Manchester United despite interest from French Ligue One side Nice.

It had been reported last week that Lingard representatives had held talks with Nice but a deal hasn’t been struck with Nice cooling down their interest in the player.

According to French publication Nice-Matin, Nice club president Jean-Pierre Rivere was quoted saying: “We have seen a lot of names appear in the press without any merit. Our goal is to get our entire squad back together and we all aim to have a good second part of the season.

“No, that won’t be the case, expecting a big transfer in the winter market. The context is totally inappropriate. We know that the winter transfer window is very special and difficult.”

28-year-old Lingard has found games hard to come by since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January 2020 with the player yet to be named in United’s Premier League squad this season with all his appearances coming in cup competitions.

The England international who contract at Old Trafford expires in 2022 last made a Premier League appearance in United’s last game of last season where his goal helped the club seal Champions League qualification in a crucial 2-0 win over Leicester City.

Apart from Nice, the player has previously been linked with a move to Inter Milan, West Ham United Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United, Marseille, and Porto.
