Manchester United are closing on a deal to bring RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano to Old Trafford.
The Sun reports that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the Frenchman to form part of his defence next season with United set to trigger his £38m release clause that is set to be active in the summer.
The reports further claim that if United can't get the player, they will be turning their attention to Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane who has constantly been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past.
Varane is said to be open to a new challenge after winning 17 trophies since joining the club in 2011; his contract with the club set to end in the summer of 2022 with his club ready to cash on him instead of letting him go for free.
22-year-old Upamecano has been scouted by United for some time now with Liverpool said to be the other club interested in the services of the player.
Dayot Upamecano race will be so interesting. Rummenigge confirmed today that Bayern are seriously interested and pushing with his agent, but Premier League top clubs are involved too as PSG. 🔴— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 21, 2021
