Bruno Fernandes came off the bench to score the winner as Manchester United beat rivals Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday to book a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup in an entertaining clash played on Sunday evening.
The two sides had traded blows for the better part of the match, with Mohamed Salah scoring a brace while Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford scored for United.
Both managers made five changes to the teams that played to a 0-0 draw at Anfield last weekend, with Ole Gunnar replacing David de Gea with Dean Henderson in goal.
There were also starts for Victor Lindelof, Donny van de Beek, and Scott McTominay, with talisman Fernandes settling for a place on the bench.
Klopp, on the other hand, recalled James Milner, Rhys Williams, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Curtis Jones.
It was a lively start to the match at Old Trafford, with both sides seizing each other in the opening few minutes.
There was no meaningful attack though in the opening quarter, with the first clear chance falling to Salah in the 18th minute.
The Egyptian collected a clever pass from Roberto Firmino, and from inside the box, lifted the ball over Dean Henderson, who was off his line for a 1-0 lead.
The lead did not last 10 minutes though as the hosts equalized in the 26th minute in spectacular fashion.
Marcus Rashford found Mason Greenwood with a well-taken defense-splitting pass, and the youngster powered home a right-foot shot to level the scores.
The match then erupted in the second period with three goals, and it all started just four minutes into the second half.
Rashford was put through on goal after a Williams mistake, and easily beat the keeper with a shot into the bottom corner to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Liverpool then responded with a goal of their own, and it was Salah again, who latched on to a pass inside the penalty box and fired a perfect low shot that went into the middle of the goal and past the goalkeeper.
Fernandes then stepped off the bench to ensure United booked their place in the fifth round, firing in a perfect freekick from the edge of the box after Fabinho committed a foul.
Cavani almost added a fourth late on, but his near-perfect header cannoned off the post as Liverpool survived.
The Red Devils booked their place in the next round, where they face West Ham.
