🇰🇪 Victor Wanyama reveals how the decision to leave Spurs happened under Mourinho

Kenyan international Victor Wanyama has explained he lost patience with his Tottenham Hotspur situation before moving to America.

The pride of the Harambe Stars completed a dream move to England from Scottish powerhouse Celtic to Southamton, before 154 Premier League appearances, including Spurs, came to an end in March 2020 with a move to Montreal Impact in the USA.

So how did the decision come about?

"Life was tough under Mourinho. I was not playing," Wanyama told Kenyan TV, as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

"I was injured for some time, and when I came back, I could not get a chance to play. I went to see the coach (Mourinho), and told him I needed to play.

"He said: 'You have to wait, you are just coming back from injury'. Clubs came in for me and asked to take me on loan with an obligation to buy after some time, but Tottenham said no.

"I went to the chairman's office and told him to understand my situation. I had been at the club for four years, and we had celebrated milestones, including the Champions League final.

"He granted me my wish to leave,” concluded the 29-year-old midfielder.

Meanwhile, Wanyama scored three goals and made two assists in 21 games for Montreal in his first season in the MLS, while the new season will start mid April.
