Arteta provides Smith Rowe injury update

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why he substituted Emile Smith Rowe during their 3-1 win over Leceister on Sunday afternoon.

The midfielder was replaced by Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard in the first half at King Power Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Arteta said the 20-year-old picked a knock but was hopeful he will not be out for a lengthy period.

"It was a muscular injury, he wasn't feeling very comfortable so we decided to take him out," said the Spaniard.

"Hopefully it's not too bad."

The Spaniard further lamented over the congested fixture schedule, which, he said, is partially the reason for the increased number of injuries.

"It's insane the number of games and minutes these players are playing without any pre-season or break."

The Gunners will have to wait for sometime before learning the extent of the injury, and how long the midfielder will be out.

Meanwhile, the London side boosted their chances of playing in Europe next season with the well-deserved victory against Brendan Rodgers' side.

Goals from David Luiz, Alexander Lacazetter, and Nicolas Pepe were enough to hand Arteta's side maximum points.
